Yoga is my spirit animal

Fun fact: I found yoga in ‘04, when I was 18 (this was before the internet was hugely popular and everyone knew everything at all times), and have practiced it on and off ever since.

I love yoga in all of its forms because it’s all just working with your body weight and it teaches your body to use every little part (even those tiny muscles that would otherwise go unused). It brings you back into your body, allowing you to forget external stressors and just focus purely on the now (aka moving meditation!). Yoga pushes you to be better inside and out, and it also increases flexibility and mobility, which decreases risk of injury.

There are so many types of yoga: Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Bikram, and now even goat yoga (just to name a few) and each style brings out something different but equally powerful. There is purely fitness yoga, there is spiritual yoga, there is DJ yoga. I love the ritual: you come to the mat, you make an intention, and for an hour you are surrounded by positive energy, and when it flows, it really flows - I completely lose myself in the movement. Yoga pushes the limitations of your body without making you feel pain or discomfort. Yoga makes you better.

People often think you have to go super hard to make an impact on your fitness, but it’s actually about balance. Some days it’s right for your body to go hard, but if you’ve already had a stressful day, it’s better to move calmly and breathe and feel positivity. Plus, if you think yoga is too easy, go to an intermediate or advanced class and you’ll quickly change your mind.

If you’ve never tried it, do it. Do it even if you don’t think you can. Do it even if you think it’s not for you. I’ve honestly never met anyone who hasn’t fallen in love with yoga when they’ve given it a chance, because yoga is whatever you want it to be. It’s your body, it’s your movement, it’s your practice.

Tell me your favorite thing about yoga (or what you’re most afraid of if you’ve never tried it) below!

P.S. I’m wearing an Outdoor Voices set in this session - my favorite brand for athletic and athleisure wear. Their Dove & Ash Two-Tone Compression Warmup set will forever be my absolute favorite. Not only does it make you look and feel great, it’s extremely comfortable, sweat wicking, and easy to move in. Did I mention that it literally fits any body type? The compression brings out the best in everyone. Also, the brand is amazing - with a focus on community and support, they have all kinds of monthly events for the local communities where they have shops.
